A life defined by music.
The Ghanaian musician and pioneer of the highlife genre, Ebo Taylor, has died aged 90.
Over a six decade career, Taylor fused Ghanaian rhythms with jazz, funk, soul and early Afrobeat.
Starting in the late 1950s, he kept the beacon of highlife music burning with numerous albums and hundreds of recordings, inspiring the re-creation of modern, highlife-influenced sounds through the countless samples we’ve come to hear over the years. Performer. Singer. Producer. Songwriter. The very epitome of African talent.I’m grateful he received his flowers and his celebration while he was still with us.He’ll be dearly missed, but his legacy and impact will live on through the millions of artists he inspired across the world.
